Respite Centre
We are delighted to announce that the Children’s Respite Trust has today moved into new premises in Uckfield. This will eventually become the Charity’s respite centre for disabled children.
The former Friday Advertiser print-works will be transformed over the coming months to create a warm, welcoming and homely centre from which the Trust will provide day care for groups of children with a range of disabilities.
The Charity has been running community and advocacy services for families throughout East Sussex, West Sussex, Brighton & Hove and parts of Surrey and Kent for seven years and the centre will also serve as its headquarters.
The Charity’s Chief Executive, Gavin Fisher, said of the move “it is a momentous occasion for all of us at the Charity, but this is only the start of the next stage of our journey. We must now raise the funds to complete the conversion of the Centre and then crucially to run it.”
The Launch
The Charity will official launch an appeal for the Centre later this month with a series of open days. Guests will be invited to view the plans for the historic building. Verity Hawkes, the Charity’s Chairman said of the event “It is going to be such a happy occasion, while bringing together everyone who has helped to get us to this point, from volunteers and donors to the families themselves and former staff.”
Plans
Plans for the centre include messy play, soft play and kitchen and dining area. In the future the Charity intends to develop a games room and a therapy room. Staff at the Centre say that the environment will be stimulating and fun. Families will get a much-needed break knowing that their children are getting the best care possible.
